Assumptions
- India tax logic is a simplified FY 2026-27 salaried-individual model.
- New-regime marginal relief is modeled in simplified form; surcharge, special-rate incomes, and state-specific details are not fully modeled.
- Verify current rules with a qualified tax advisor before filing or choosing a regime.
Formula Used
Lowest CTC on a ₹1,000 grid where salaryCalculator(CTC) ≥ target monthly in-hand
There is no reverse formula. The calculator runs the same salary engine used by the Salary Calculator against candidate packages in ₹1,000 steps, from the lowest CTC that could possibly work upwards, and stops at the first step that reaches your target.
Example
- Enter the monthly in-hand you want.
- Open the advanced section if your PF basis or work state differs from the defaults.
- Read the required CTC, then check the verification row and the breakdown beneath it.
Common Mistakes and Limitations
Common mistakes
- Treating an estimate as a guaranteed outcome.
- Ignoring fees, taxes, penalties, or changing rates.
- Using annual and monthly rates interchangeably.
- Forgetting that a calculator is only as reliable as the inputs entered.
Limitations
- The rule may be too simple for complex financial situations.
- It does not replace personalized advice from a qualified professional.
- Real results can change because of taxes, fees, rates, inflation, and behavior.

What is In-Hand Salary to CTC Calculator?
In-Hand Salary to CTC Calculator answers a specific salary question without opening a spreadsheet. Enter monthly in-hand salary you want, basic salary as % of ctc, work state (for professional tax) and professional tax from your payslip (optional), review the estimate as you type, and open the formula block to see how the result is produced.
It uses INR defaults, Indian number formatting, and India-specific assumptions where relevant.
Inputs explained
Basic salary as % of CTC
The share of your annual CTC treated as basic salary. Supported range: 0 to 100.
Why it matters: Basic drives PF, gratuity and the HRA exemption limit, so it changes take-home more than most people expect.
Check your salary breakup or offer letter — commonly 40-50% of CTC.
Work state (for professional tax)
The state your employment is taxed in. MonePoint calculates professional tax only for states whose schedule it has read in that state's own publication.
Why it matters: Professional tax is a state levy — the amount differs by state and several charge none at all, so there is no national figure to fall back on.
Not sure, or your state is not listed? Leave it unspecified and enter the amount from your payslip instead.
Professional tax from your payslip (optional)
The annual professional tax your employer deducts. Anything you enter here overrides the state rule. Supported range: 0 to 100,000,000.
Why it matters: It reduces your take-home pay, though under the new regime it does not reduce your taxable income.
Multiply the monthly figure on your payslip by twelve, or read the year-to-date total.
How PF is contributed
Whether contributions run on the statutory wage ceiling or on your full basic pay. Your payslip or HR will say which.
Why it matters: It is the difference between about ₹21,600 a year of EPF and a figure several times larger, so it moves take-home more than almost anything else here.
If your EPF deduction is close to ₹1,800 a month regardless of your salary, you are on the statutory ceiling.
Your EPF for the year (if entering it yourself)
Your own annual EPF contribution, used only when you choose to enter it. The employer side stays on the statutory basis. Supported range: 0 to 100,000,000.
Why it matters: Contributing more yourself — through voluntary PF, for instance — reduces take-home without changing what your employer pays.
Use this when
You want a quick planning estimate before comparing detailed options.
This answers
Judge whether an offer, or a salary expectation, is enough to reach the take-home you want.
Example situation
Enter the monthly in-hand you want. Open the advanced section if your PF basis or work state differs from the defaults. Read the required CTC, then check the verification row and the breakdown beneath it.
Do not use this for
The rule may be too simple for complex financial situations.
Why this matters
Judge whether an offer, or a salary expectation, is enough to reach the take-home you want.
Offers are quoted in CTC and lived in take-home, and the gap between them is wide enough that people accept packages that do not pay what they expected.
When this tool is useful
- You want a quick planning estimate before comparing detailed options.
- You need a simple way to explain the decision to yourself or a family member.

What CTC do I need for ₹1 lakh in-hand salary?
It depends on how the package is built, which is why this calculator asks rather than quoting a figure. The share of CTC that is basic pay changes how much goes to PF; whether PF runs on the statutory ceiling or on full basic changes it again; and professional tax varies by state. Enter ₹1,00,000 above and the calculator solves it against those assumptions.
Why is CTC so much higher than take-home salary?
CTC is what your employer spends, and several parts of it never reach your account as cash. The employer's provident fund contribution sits inside CTC but goes to your PF account. Your own PF comes out of pay. Then professional tax, where your state charges it, and income tax. The breakdown on this page shows each step.
Does PF change the CTC I need?
Yes, twice over. The employer's contribution is inside CTC but is not cash, and your own contribution is deducted from pay. If your employer contributes on full basic pay rather than the statutory ceiling, both figures grow and the CTC needed for the same take-home rises. The advanced section lets you set which applies.
Is professional tax included?
Only if you select a state whose schedule MonePoint has verified, or enter the amount from your payslip. Professional tax is set by states and several charge none, so there is no national figure to assume. Where it is not included, the CTC needed is slightly understated.
Is a bonus counted in the monthly figure?
No. This calculator assumes no variable pay, because a target like ₹1 lakh a month usually means the money that arrives every month. Meeting it partly with an annual bonus would flatter the average and miss most months. The Salary Calculator lets you add a bonus and see the effect.
Why might my actual salary differ from this estimate?
Employers structure packages differently — what counts as basic pay, what else sits inside CTC such as a gratuity provision or insurance premium, and their PF policy. This is a model of a common structure, not a reading of your payslip.
